May 2012
Hello everyone, I know I haven’t been posting any text posts in forever, but I haven’t really had the motivation to write one, but this one is a personal favourite. For some of you, you may have noticed that I have not been posting anything for a few days, and the reason being is that I was in Haliburton for 5days due to camp!
I was a co-counsellor for a grade 8 trip that various schools go to. The whole week was filled with many kids, bugs, and especially STARS! The whole experience was amazing. I have been going to camp ever since I was 12 and loved every singe day of it.
The Counsellors/Staff
As a young camper the counsellor’s were the people I looked up, and inspired to be. They my friends should be every child’s role model, not a main character of an MTV show or the Kardashian’s. Being a counsellor it was very surprising to be inspired by me fellow counsellors. These guys were AMAZING! They were all cool, funny, nice, and now my friends. I may sound like a little girl who thinks were BFF’S but with these guys it’s hard not to think that. Majority of us came to camp without knowing everyone’s name, but now I can’t stop thinking about the moments we had. Now as a counsellor I was faced with campers who would disobey at times and give me attitude, but it all paid off when it was time to say good-bye and one of them was telling my how he was blessed to have me as a counsellor, and that he wanted to keep in contact. It’s comments like that made every sweat, mosquito bite, and cold nights worth it. This experience really got me thinking, if this is the same feeling you get as a teacher, then why not become one? The feeling is indescribable, and the people you meet are unbelievable! Hopefully this journey with AAC continues and the people keep coming.
Location
Being in a middle of no-where, where there is a theatre, a dock, basketball court, WiFi and bathroom shared with 150guys is something many kids these days would hate. But how can you hate it? Especially the trees and the lake, two things that have been on earth since day one. The smell is amazing AND HOW CAN I FORGET hearing the loons and coyote’s at night?! Those noises are now deafened by t.v’s„ cars, and if your lucky barking. Being 3hours away from where my house, school, and friends are was actually soo calming and my escape. The whole week I did not think of school, drama, and stress… AT ALL. I guess the farther you are the more you get to focus on you.
P.S for future counsellors the best thing you can ever do to a camper is remember their name. It means a lot to them. It meant a lot to me when I was a camper.

SOME of the counsellors I was blessed to meet and spend 5 days with.
